Event Name: | FIRST NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SPACE SCIENCES |
Event Description: | The Institute of Space & Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA), University of Karachi is organizing the “First National Conference on Space Sciences” on October 8 & 9, 2012 at Arts Auditorium, University of Karachi and for celebrating "World Space Week 2012". This conference is being organized in collaboration with Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, SUPARCO, Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Physical Society, Sindh Chapter. The theme of the Conference is “Space for Human Safety and Security”. Faculty members and students of various universities, institutes and other organizations of Karachi as well as Pakistan are expected to attend the Conference. |

Report on the Results: | The Institute of Space and Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA), University of Karachi, Karachi, Pakistan has arranged two days Conference namely "First National Conference on Space Sciences" in collaboration with Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, SUPARCO, Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Physical Society, Sindh Chapter. This conference was inaugurated by Senior Minister of Govt. of Sindh for Education & Literacy, Mr. Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq on October 8, 2012 at Arts Auditorium, University of Karachi, Karachi. Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi has arranged the proceedings of second day program on October 9, 2012 of this conference in Sir Syed University. Speakers from LUMs, Lahore; University of Punjab, Lahore; Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad; NUST, Rawalpindi; Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad & Karachi; University of Peshawar, Peshawar; University of Sindh, Jamshoro; Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology, Karachi; Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi; SUPARCO and University of Karachi, were presented their research work in this conference. Total 36 research papers were presented on Astronomy, Cosmology, Flight Dynamics, Satellite Communication, Ionospheric Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Oceanography, G.I.S & Remote Sensing and Renewable Energy etc., in this Conference. A large number of students, faculty members, national professors, professionals and scientists from all over Pakistan were present on the two days of National Conference. A large number of English & Urdu Newspapers journalists and TV Channels persons were present on this event. The Concluding Session of the Conference to help support the reform agenda are as follows: 1) As Space Technology acts as a catalyst of Socio-economic of a country, so Govt. of Pakistan should support Space Science program in universities as well as government organization. 2) As Pakistan needs more Space Scientist for supporting National Space vision 2040, therefore all the public and private universities including engineering universities should start the program of Space Science and Technology at under graduate and graduate levels. 3) At the higher secondary level Space Science and Astronomy options should be added as separate subjects. Stress should be given to the practical and observational aspects. |
